The Unready

Am I ready for anything?
That’s too much to expect,
But perhaps I’m

Ready to complain
At the next management decree
That will never work,

Ready to rage
The next time the bus doesn’t turn up
After waiting in the rain,

Ready to yell
At the next self-service checkout
That tells me to insert cash,

Ready to scream
At the next politician in the TV
Oozing smarm and spin,

Ready to hurl
The next computer to crash
From the highest window,

Ready to smash
The next photocopier that jams
Or runs out of paper,

Ready to kill
The next fool who asks a stupid question
Anyone with a brain could answer.

Oh I’m ready…
Ready to go back to bed,
And stay there.
